I am walking through the supermarket and I am pleased to be picking out simple ingredients for the demo today. It also feels good to know that I will be actually teaching people to cook, rather than just handing out food for people to sample. I am a little unsure of how the day will go, but excited to see what kind of response I will get.
Well, the demo was a great success! I had so much fun. Not only did a lot of people stop by to talk and to taste a sample of the Chicken and Leek Stroganoff, I had great volunteers who jumped right in and cooked beside me. They also said they would teach two other people to cook the recipe. (This is the premise of Jamie Oliver’s pledge… learn a recipe and teach two people in order to create an exponential shift in the way people eat in America) I think that we could really get something rolling here in Fort Collins. I also was thrilled to find out that the next recipe I tried at home from Jamie’s book was also delicious. I tried an easy shrimp stir-fry and thought that I had surely over-cooked everything due to my incomplete prepping of ingredients. I know good wok cooking demands serious chop and prep readiness and I kind of missed the mark. However, the dish was very tasty and my husband raved about it. Jamie is continuing to earn his credibility with me!
